Aura
OrangeNews Letter No 24 ~ MARCH 2001
News
& Reviews:- Okay folks ! How you all doin' eh ? Apologies
on the fact that with the last mail out there was, alas
no newsletter. I mean there is only so many of these fuckers
you can write, right. If we force our minds back then the
last newsletter (Jan'
I think) had all that hassle
of the venue change and the Mezzanine not re-opening until
the end of Feb'
ra, ra raa, green mountain and all
that, well here we are now in lovely British Summer Time
with a fine opportunity to get everyone up to date - so
with no further ado lets launch into firstly saying thanx
to all of you who sardined your way into RICO'S Feb 2nd
just gone and partook in a mini time warp to the return
of hot, low ceiling, body on body clubbing where we (most
certainly I..) had a rip~roarer. The fact we stuffed a further
10K in there may have helped !
Feb
2nd The dee jays as originally lined up (when we thought
we'd be at the Mezzanine in Feb' rather than at Rico's)
namely MICK DIP (dip recs / e-traxx) and SOL RAY (e-traxx
/ Upfront) unfortunately had to be cancelled. Big sorry
there boys, we could do F.A. about it. Luckily we rescued
JO SHIVA (kinetec rec. / g.o.d) and mixed her all up with
our own rezzie heddie boys KEEF and TIGGER (ooh err
)
to provide a main & middle room experience second to
er
well
.only a few others. The night certainly
finished in what some may call '
hyper hyper..' mode
hitting the A.O. spot (which always incidentally comes B4
the G~spot) capping the night superbly. Mmmarvelous. Thunderous
even
Likewise
a big nod to our alter ego TUNA shedding out those phat,
hard steppin' beats in the beefed up back room (rather than
the RedRoom) with our man on the scene DJ DAN and bimonthly
TUNA resident SHAOLIN (pro-session, atomic-jam, tuna). DJ
PACE and MOOD providing the full complement. The whole night
was a success and a good laugh throughout. So a big, if
belated, thanks on that one. Ta very much, lovely, fantastic.
Problemo
#1:- Now guys we've had a lot of licensing problems kick
off with the Mezzanine here in Wolverhampton. And what's
more they're still going on. The last party there (Fri 2nd
March) had to be re-scheduled last minute to a 4 a.m. finish
rather than our anticipated 6 a.m. Not Good.
Mar 2nd Indeed as far as that last party goes many thanx
again go out to all you party heads out there - hopefully
you enjoyed the main room madness (OK, it was a bit too
loud as far as interfering with the other rooms went - but
hey
w.t.f. do you expect with a 77K Thunder Ridge
system
). So big extended family thanks (sorry, wrong
speech ~ that one's for Madders @ Sundissential) to all,
including the fab tab line up with Canada's premier Hard
Trance DJ S4 giving it the flavour difference. Our residents
KEEF, TIGGER and FIL BRAY sorted out the guts of the evening
with Mr. SAM warming it up in those earlier, colder
moments - hopefully the boys had it to everyone's satisfaction
.
Black balls to the usual address if not ...thankquu.
The
REDROOM ~ Hip Hop with a splash of Drum 'n' Bass this time
went off with live performances from VILLAINS (featuring
DJ TRICKSTA and LATE) and VICIOUS CIRCLE. The rest of the
night moving along nicely with DJ DAN, RATTY and DEDLOCK
injecting a few more of those essential grooves for all
you movers out there! The third and final offering of the
nite Deep and Funky House in our 'Udder Room' though being
a bit overrun with the main room mayhem (good job the environmental
health weren't there with their little meters
) held
its own with DJ MASE and the B.F.G. boys providing a Housetastic
experience.
Problemo #1:- As already said, sorry for the 4am finish
due to the licensing difficulties being experienced with
the Mezzanine at the mo' (we are doing our best to have
it sorted) but there's no guarantees as we're riding the
wave so to speak with the Mezzanine, Council and Police
!!! and whilst we're at it another apology
and that
being for the cold experienced by some folk @ the Mezz.
that nite on the 2nd - 'the coldest weekend ever in the
history of clubbing'
well it was cold but we managed
to raise the temperature somehow (won't go into it right
now though
). Next time we're keeping the bottom doors
by the stalls shut and for emergency access only, using
the main stairs and balcony for upstairs and RedRoom access.
That should warm the proceedings up (m'lord) plus the fact
we'll look to turn the heating on
and definitely have
it working. K.
This
time around (Fri 6th April) we have applied for a 6 a.m.
license but as of writing this here newsletter we're still
none the wiser. Right - I've just been on the phone
blower
..call it what you will
and the Mezzanine have in
turn just done the same, linking up with those suited and
booted boys down at the council who say
no
.
I don't believe it ! (this is all happening live by the
way folks
) they say NO !! aargghh, aaarrgghhh
Aura
Orange have just been knocked back to a 4 a.m. finish for
Fri 6th April at the Mezzanine ..we now return to writing
with hindsight
Apr
6th So,
bollox. But fear not we can still give you
the the bollox (4 a.m. or not). On the night we're gonna
be bringing you quality (as always) in the form of a main
room pouring out NRG to make your valves murmur. Full On..
Flat Out
Fall Over.. Hi Energy Harder House House
(I can't deal with all this labelling of music
) that'll
rock ya boots. Sadly RUBEC cancelled due to a 3 week tour
of Argentina
nice.. but we'll forgive him (South America
.
Wolverhampton
mmmm !!!! ???). Replacing him we have
HARRY LOVE (pure groove records / intra-venus) with the
welcome return of OBERON (escape from samsara) guesting
in like a good 'un. Of course, as always, we'll be serving
up a varied selection of resident heads this time creaming
the night off with that familiar rocket fuel flavoured ending
..mach II and rising
mustered through the likes of
TIGGER hot-tailed by KEEF cauterising the nite off. Sit
back and you should be taken all the way!
if not I'd
ask for my money back.
The
RedRoom will have DJ DAN and SHAOLIN with the local STEALTH
boys CHARGE, PH-1, FILTH and MOOD anchoring the nite into
a deluge of D&B proper.
The 'Udder Room' hosts weird and funky chillin' (not Deep
and Funky House as advertised on the posters ~ whoops! )
with residents INDIGOJO and DJ MACE. Guest COSMO NAUGHTY
(stereo chemistry) with his own stylee of chill out mornin'
trance-indentals also joins in ...getting to be quite a
ménage. Crikey!
So, there you have it the line up and the guts - not the
gutter
(who ses advertising doesn't work, hmm) a slightly
altered but nonetheless wicked line up (does nothing run
smoothly ??).
No
Problemo #1:-Just to say at this point that there will again
be a drinks promotion (A.O @ Mezzanine Apr. 6th) on a selected
spirit and bottled beer. Last time it was Vodka at a pound
a pop and Bottled Becks at £1.50. This time around
it'll be pretty much along the same lines with the slight
variation of perhaps Pils / Vodka being on promo, either
way there'll be something to ease the burden on your pockets!
Thought it best to say this here in the newsletter given
there has been a few of you coming away from the bar a bit
shell shocked and reeling from what I can only put down
to being unawares as to what's on offer. Hopefully this
goes some way to shedding a little light on the whole drinking
matter - for those of you of course who fancy a tipple in
and amongst all those other vices I'm sure we all suffer.
Hats off of course going to the crew who can simply get
out there and on with it with nothing more than a bottle
of water and a good nights sleep the night b4 ! (though
I think they're usually dressed in orange saris and go round
bashing tambourines
). Right, I think that covers everybody.
4
the Fewcha:- Other ventures sees us with Atomic Jam Sat.
5th May at the Que Club B'ham. There we'll be throwing our
hand in with the back room chill out going on a bit of an
AmbientAuraAbstractAgenda. Should all prove to be a good
nite with Sven Vath gracing the main stage. INDIGOJO and
BOD (..return of) will be joining us in providing the right
laid back attitude and tunes on the night (after all we
do keep 'em securely locked away and only for use on special
occasion ~ wonder what else fits that criteria, eh
).
Also we'll be letting a little World Music into the air
with 'aperitif' opener Mr. Sparrow with a quick venting
of SIKBOY before indulging ourselves into the night proper.
Come find us in the dark corners
.
We're back in W'ton @ Mezzanine on Fri 11th May with a slightly
different tack in that we'll be taking the Udder Room and
ram-jammin' the Hip-Hop & Breakbeats in there, tearing
them away from the RedRoom and TUNA upstairs leaving them
to get on with their thang ~ pure D&B, where we'll see
RICHIE SWIFT (H.O.G. / Cool FM), CHRIS (Breakin' Point Magazine)
and of course the man who holds it all together and plays
a blinder himself DJ DAN.
The main room this time kickin' off with residents and a
few choice mystery guests (t.b.c
.)
We
did have a Free Party date for 19th May, but due to the
foot and mouth outbreak this and other festy / outdoor parties
could be affected. We have managed to relocate the site
and now are looking to get a full on weekender going on
the weekend of Fri, Sat & Sun (6th, 7th & 8th) July
but more on that as we get closer. Watch this space, and
check grapevine for details!
