Aura Orange - News letter Sept '98

HOwDy.. DOOdy...DoWDy..

Firstly, firstly, firstly... Thankyou MetalHeadz for giving Screamers a top night Sat' just gone !! Variety with a vengence following the blitz of techno and / or trance nights that 'ave indeed been 'avin it (all to themselves) of recent times. Big Charlie Potatoes Respect - or at least I think that's how they say it in London...

Firstly, firstly, firstly aswell... Thanks to our own mob of vynil junkies who still carry on playing and giving it out - As for our last party (Screamers 1/08/98) thanks on this front go out to "el residento's" on the night Tigger and Aytch, also thanks to DJ Raw down from Leeds that night (shame the kill switches didn't work...). The live p.a. hit the spot with The Secret who played a 'storma' of a set (and what's more got right on that dance floor themselves right after !) with Tigger winding it up and right out in true Aura Orange style with the final set of the night.
The Weird Room had it as hard and full on as the main room at points, with the likes of 'Phat Boy and Slim', now known as 'Nuttcracker and Bushman', giving you no retreat from the "full on..flat out... fallin' over" ethos that you thought you'd safely left in the main room - Thanks guys ! Decor by those lovely, lovely folk Trance Orbital with the Bizarre Market to boot (...what car boot ??...) made for a cosy retreat with a bit of shopping thrown in for those who just can't break the habbit.

Sat 26th Sept' '98 sees us go ahead with the first ever 'combo' party ! Kick off is at 10pm at Screamers, soon to be known as WV1, Worcester St. W-ton, where we'll be providing you with an aztec, foresty feel - as the theme for the evening, before we get out there for real to continue at the outdoor party location. All directions will be supplied at the end of the night (4am scheduled club finish) with the outdoor party commencing at 5am. It will be relatively local so even those on foot should be able to get there during the 'intermission' !! The 'top tip' on this one being to bring along some outdoor clothing as there ain't no marquee, or nearby car parking, to take the chill off should you decide to travel light !!

Looking ahead to Sat October 31st we bring you 'Aura Orange say it with Rubber 2'. Halloween Fancy Dress Ball @ Screamers (or WV1 for that matter...). Dress to distress...Fun Fetish...Fancy Dress (no dress code). Fiver til 5, or 6am depending on whether you wish to acknowledge the onset of British Winter Time; whichever - just remember to turn those 'timepieces' back and enjoy that extra hour !
This night will also (fingers crossed, club agreeing it, time permitting and nobody else getting arrested meantime...) be the first night we open the third and newest room downstairs known as the 'Experimental Room'. Here we intend to allow YOU to do YOUR THANG - the 31st Oct gig will have Tony Bell - "Project Horsed" - down there, with the flavour of music on this occasion being Dark Ambient, suiting the mood of the goolish halloween night...
The Experimental Room is an 'open' forum for all to enjoy, so you needn't be a DJ or feel the onus of what you do has to lie in the musical realm. Performing art, mime - whatever ! You guys tell us and we'll look to schedule you in - Check it out and fill in your details on the forms provided at the A.O. stall if you want to make a slot for yourself at the next gig - we'll do the rest.. in fact... anyone know any table dancers..?!!..or wanna-bee's.?!! Seriously though, from wanting an hour on the decks there, to having a complete night's theme in mind, the Experimental Room is the one to kick it around in ! See us and we'll see yoooou Jimme !! Cheers to Mikey F. for the initial idea on this one. Ta.

Upstairs we'll have the main room playing host to our resident slaves TIGGER, KEEF, AYTCH.
Warm up with Slim Jim (to be confirmed) with AYTCH, as proven already, taking you from the witching hour, getting you in the move with his taste for the Progressive mixed through licks of the High and New Energy numbers that just keep on getting you there...Goo' On Aytch (..no. not in that sense - not a good idea...!)
DJ Flux (Flux Records Norwich - yet to be confirmed) will be there (or maybe not...) to keep that momentum going before we go hyper ~ HYPER ~ holding on tight to that Full On.. Flat Out... Fall Over.. ethos. With the pick of the Tunes, in a Back to Back Classics Set, this having been conceived, chosen and arranged with the heinsight of all the past toptastic nights our resident heads, TIGGER & KEEF have had the pleasure to induce over the past eighteen months (nice choice guys...) at this point, I feel it only proper, to say that should you suffer any disposition to the nervous or pulmonary systems... Forget It.. stay home, watch telly, grow a beard..whatever...we just don't need the paperwork, or take a regular 'chill' in the new downstairs room !

The Weird Room out back will have a new line up (keepin' it fresh...) with Phil Lane experimenting with a little Deep Ambient (..mixed and dubbed into deep, deep space...because he loves it ! Good Future Music reviews..the chap's got references okay !) and Steve Moxon ~ Battle of the Planets with some new twists in the funkier side of D&B. And of course the man who has been there and kept it going for everybody DJ DAN layin' down the Harder D&B in a Jump Up Style - just a flippin' Musical Rent Boy if you were to ask me....and him... for that matter. Anyway Respect to DJ DAN the man - or at least I think that's how they say it in Wolverhampton.

At last we can introduce the Aura Orange membership tags mentioned in the last newsletter. These cast metal (eye logo) key chains / brooches will be personalised with your Membership No. at a cost of £2.00 , available from the A.O. stall situated in the Bizarre Market...(don't forget your membership card so we know your Mem. No.)

And finally...few ..pant..pant..gasp...(yep it's a long one !!)....as ever, advanced tickets and free membership are available from the Mike LLoyd box office W- ton and Hanley. If you want to drop us a line it's...Aura Orange, P.O. Box 1365, Wolverhampton, WV2 4UA.....E-mail: aura@az-tech.ndirect.co.uk ...Web Site: http://www.aura-orange.home.ml.org
